Evacuation and/or Relocation (Initial Actions)

Relocation (To a safe area within the facility)

Direction to Evacuate/Relocate will be given by the Unified Command via the IMT.  (ex., AOC, SNL, Fire Chief, etc.)

Remove any patient in immediate danger at any time without waiting for instructions.

Ask visitors to remain with the patient if safe to do so.

Medical records must be moved with the patient.

Move wheeled medical equipment out of the corridor.

Know nearest, safe location on opposite side of smoke/fire door on the same floor when horizontal evacuation/relocation is needed.  May be the stairwell landing at some facilities

Know "sister" floor/wing/unit where your patients can be taken if relocation is needed

Know "staging" location for your floor/wing/unit if a complete evacuation is required.

Evacuation

The above procedures are executed as part of the initial evacuation process
(NOTE: Most Ambulatory Sites will Evacuate as opposed to Relocate during an emergency condition whereby the environment of care is unsafe. Identify and know your safe internal or external Rally Point.  Ensure all personnel, patients, etc., are accounted for and advise the Unified Command and IMT of any discrepancies. (ex., Fires, Severe Storm Damage, etc.)

Provisions for Medical Records, Medications, Oxygen, etc., must be made.  Providing staff to accompany the patient for transfers may be necessary.

Patient Tracking throughout transport/transfer is required.

The Unified Command via the IMT will provide more specific details and tools to be used.
