SECURITY ALERT-Security Assistance Needed (Used for Missing Person/Patient Elopement as well) Notify Security (655) and notify your chain of command (911 outside hospital) Attempt to verbally de-escalate the situation If physical assault is attempted, remove yourself from the situation Stay clear from area Allow Security/Police to handle situation and follow their directionsCritical Information/Points to Remember Protect Your Safety and that of Your Coworkers Protect the Safety of our Patients and Their Families A "SECURITY ALERT-Security Assistance Needed" is called when Security or Police assistance is required due to someone's continued, escalating, unruly, behavior that is inconsistent with the decorum required in a healthcare setting OR due to Patient Elopement (As opposed to someone refusing further medical assistance who has the capacity to make that decision) Examples of when to call a SECURITY ALERT-Security Assistance Needed Patient restraint is required to protect patient and staff Unacceptable behavior continues from patients, visitors, etc., and de-escalation attempts have not been successful Patient leaves/attempts to leave the facility and doing so is a threat to their well-being or they do not have the capacity to refuse medical assistance at that time |
