Shelter in Place (Initial Actions-Various Scenarios)

Shelter in Place-Active Shooter/Attack

If there is ever a need to Shelter in Place due to an Active Shooter/Attack we will follow the procedure for Security Alert: Active Shooter/Attack

Shelter in Place-Plume from a Chemical Hazard/Biological Hazard/Radioactive Fallout/Particulate from a Wildland Fire

Stay/Get Inside and Report to your Unit/Department ASAP.  If contaminated report to Decon Area first. (Minimal Clothing Removal, Redress, Hand/Face wipe)
Close and Lock all doors/windows and minimize air flow.  This may involve turning off HVAC Units and Maintenance will perform this function at facilities with Maintenance present. Where practical tape/seal the gaps around doors/windows, cover vents/recessed fans and tape over electrical outlets not in use.

Shelter in Place-Earthquake

DO NOT RUN Outside
DO NOT STAND in doorframes
DO NOT USE elevators

DROP-To Your Hands and Knees so you don't fall     
COVER-Under sturdy furniture if available.  Tuck and cover your neck and head with a coat, blanket, cushion or your arms.     
HOLD ON-To the furniture so you stay covered.
After shaking stops check on coworkers and patients if safe to do so.
If in a damaged structure go outside and move away from the building a minimal of 1.5 times the height of the building.  Be on the lookout for downed power lines, gas leaks, water main breaks, etc.
If trapped send a text message or bang on a pipe or wall.
Expect Fire Alarms and Sprinklers to activate.
Expect After Shocks

Shelter in Place-Severe Weather (Hurricane, Tornado, Thunderstorms, High Winds, Blizzard, etc.)

Maintain your Weather Awareness at all times. (See the National Weather Service Forecast Link in Left Margin)
For all events stay indoors for the length of the Severe Weather event
For high wind events close and lock doors/windows; close blinds/drapes; move everyone away from exterior doors/windows and to interior spaces whenever possible.  Provide blankets for additional cover.
For severe rapid flooding/rising water events avoid basements and sub-basements that are in areas prone to flooding.  If in such an occupancy get to above ground floors if/when needed.  Have alternate routes to and from work to avoid flood prone areas.  "TURN AROUND/DON'T DROWN!"
