Plain Language/Healthcare Emergency Codes at Cooper University Health Care

TYPE OF ALERT + TYPE OF EVENT + LOCATION + DIRECTION

There are 3 Overarching ALERT TYPES:

MEDICAL ALERT (Medically Related Response Needed)
FACILITY ALERT (Infrastructure Related Response Needed)
SECURITY ALERT (Security Related Response Needed)

Each ALERT is Broken Down into 4 Sections:

Alert Type (Medical, Facility or Security)
Event (Identifies the type of emergency.  Examples include fire alarm, infant/child abduction, active shooter/attack, etc.)
Location (Identifies the area "responders" should report to and others should stay away from)
Direction (What You Need if INITIATING or What to Do if RESPONDING)

To Report an Emergency perform the following:*

     Medical Alert - Dial 666*
     Facility Alert - Dial 644*
     Security Alert - Dial 655*
*For any/all Life/Limb Threats Ambulatory Locations Dial 911

STATE THE ALERT TYPE: (ex., Medical Alert, Facility Alert, Security Alert)
STATE THE EVENT TYPE CLEARLY: (ex., Fire, Active Shooter, Infant/Child Abduction)
STATE THE SPECIFIC LOCATION: (ex., Trauma Admitting Area, PEDS ED Waiting Room, MCC D-405, etc.)
PROVIDE ADDITIONAL INFO/DIRECTION: (ex., Staff using a fire extinguisher, Staff using spill kit, etc.) 
NOTE:  Memorization of what Alert Types go with what Event Types is not critical.  The overarching goal is that all know what emergency condition exists, where it is and how to respond.
 
Initial Actions to take based on incident/event
 
Follow Unit/Department Protocol, Policy and Procedure
Follow Unit/Department Specific Business Continuity Plan
Activate the IMT via 856-968-7900 and/or TIGERTEXT for escalating events
     For Urgent Maintenance Requests Dial 856-342-2916 for the Hospital Campus and Dial 856-325-6500 for Ambulatory Sites 
     For Urgent IT related Requests Dial 856-968-7166
